Forget Me Not

Faded roses pressed in a book

Filled with yellowed pages

“Forget me not,” he whispered

she adjusted the starched uniform collar

“How handsome you look come home to me,” she whispered

The snipers bullet found him writing his daily letter

Ending with the words “I love you Forget Me Not,”

The war to end all wars came to its appointed end

Ghastly casualties and walking wounded

But she never did forget the handsome man in his lovely uniform

Or the rose pressed into the pages of a book with yellowed pages.
