Adventures In Trashsurfing (Or In Praise Of Little Things)

When I was very young I used to think that if I could someday grow up and be rich my life would be a limitless point forward in the direction of happiness.

Well things didn’t quite work out that way at least on the rich side.

You know what?

I’m glad.

I’ve known some very very rich people in fact absurdly rich.

They never seemed happy.

Always looking for the next big thing then, when it came it wasn’t enough.

There had to be another next big thing.

I’m not a young man anymore but I don’t feel old.

My hair is white and that’s okay.

I’m not rich but I have so much.

A family that loves me, good friends, writing talent I try to make the best of, and my health.

A nice house with nice neighbors. Not huge, not small, but just perfect for our needs.

You know what excites me now?

Trashsurfing.

What you ask is Trashsurfing?

It’s going to thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and finding literally what one person thinks of as trash is for you a big blue wave of coolness that you can take home and make your own.

I once had over 10,000 record albums and about 6,000 books.
