We Were Sailors

Ships cutting through the seas

Wood planks creaking

From Atlantis to the Viking

English and Spanish

Fighting for empires

Where the sun never set

Country after country

Navigating the impetuous sea

Storms and lighting

“Those in peril on the sea…”

Pirates what plundered

Seeking gold and precious jewels

Sailors who died a watery death

Titanic heartbreak

Joy of the new sun

On calm water

Sea shanty’s on decks

Laughter and rum

Immigrants crowded together

Hungry and cold

Searching for new hope

In a fabled land

Statue of Liberty

Torch raised

We were sailors

With a love for adventure

Some were evil

Some were good

We were sailors

Mapped the great oceans

Changed the world.
