Wedding Ring
Such a small beautiful gold thing
To lose inside the engine of a car
The resultant guilt and sadness
Has never gone away.
I still look for my first wedding ring
In the engine blocks of my dreams
There have been others
But that one was first
Bought with work blood
By my beloved wife
When we were so poor
We couldn’t take our car
To a mechanic.
It’s strange the things that
Haunt a man.
